India’s first ever Junior PADI Master Scuba Diver
PADI would like to share an amazing story of a very remarkable young man who, like many of us, have the same love for the ocean and underwater Aquatic world. Please spend some time to recognize, share and read Jashan’s achievement.
Jashan loved being in the water from a very early age. In May 2008, during a semi- submarine ride at Hurgada, Egypt, he saw the underwater world for the first time and developed a keen interest for SCUBA diving. When Jashan reached 10 years old, his parents contacted PADI Instructor Anindya Mukherjee of “Goa Aquatics”, India. In 2010, it was here under the inspiring guidance of his instructor, that Jashan completed his Junior PADI Open Water Course at age 10, which was the start of many things to come.
Jashan was determined to complete and obtain his PADI Junior Adventure Diver certification, and after successfully completing PADI Adventure dives PPB, UW Photography, the rating of PADI Junior Adventure Diver was awarded in March 2011.
Until then, most of his diving was conducted in India, around Grande Island in Goa and Netrani Island in Murudeshwar, Karnataka. However in November 2011, he finally experienced his first shark dive, at the Aquarium of Dubai Mall, through PADI Centre Al Boom Diving.
In March 2012, Jashan was lucky enough to have dived the famed Thai islands of Koh Racha Yai, Koh Racha Noi and Coral island, with the support of PADI CDC Scuba Cat Diving. He then progressed onto some of the most advanced and breathtaking dive sites Thailand has to offer, the famous Phi Phi Islands, Bida Nok, Bida Nai, Malong, Palong Bay, Viking, Tonsai Wall, Pileh wall, Hin Bida which was all conducted through PADI 5 Star IDC Visa Diving.
Experiencing leopard sharks, black tip reef sharks, hawks bill turtles, blue spotted sting rays and reef octopuses, Jashan’s passion continued to grow.
In November 2012, at age 12 on Phi Phi Islands, with PADI 5 Star Centre Blue View Divers and under the professional guidance of PADI Instructor Alexandra Bassarab, Jashan finally completed his Junior PADI AOW course with a deep dive of 21meters under his belt. From here, he signed up for Emergency First Response and PADI Specialty courses of Boat Diving, Enriched Air Diving and Night Diving.
Under a disciplined and professional guidance, Jashan proceeded to become the very first Indian PADI Junior Rescue diver in March 2013.
Along with his parents, both his PADI Instructors and PADI Asia Pacific were all extremely proud and honoured to announce Jashan as the very first Indian diver, to obtain the rating of a PADI Junior Master Scuba Diver, this fantastic achievement being completed at the young age of just 12 years old.
Now Jashan is looking to dive in new locations in search of Whale sharks, Manta Rays and Hammer heads sharks. Some of his desired locations are the Maldives, Sipadan and Bali, so if any PADI PRRA members wish to help Jashan, then please feel to contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Both Jashan’s parents quoted
“ We appreciate the safety standards set by PADI and the efforts put in by excellent instructors – Anindya Mukherjee and Alexandra Bassarab. Both Jashan and I feel that PADI courses can inspire people of any age and make them SCUBA divers. Hats Off!!! The Books/videos and study material create interest and motivate children of Jashan’s age.
Once again we thank you very much for appreciating Jashan’s achievement. We are also thankful to Anindya Mukherjee of Goa Aquatics and Alex of Blue View, for making his dreams come true. We shall always keep diving!”
PADI and PADI Regional Manager Tony Andrews would like to personally thank all involved, in making this young boy’s dreams come true, and a special congratulations to Jashan himself. Please feel free to share his great achievement, and join in congratulating Jashan, the youngest Indian PADI Junior Master Scuba Diver!
