Project Aware Event raises awareness for the protection of baby sharks in Phuket

On Sunday 22nd April, the evening before Earth Day, PADI members attended a Project Aware evening held in Phuket, Thailand.

The event was held at PADI Resort RNRR Eco Adventures Ric “N” Roll, to help create more awareness regarding the importance of baby sharks being used as decorative decorations in some local restaurants. Both Professionals and recreational divers united together for a fun packed evening containing a marine themed pub quiz, a Project Aware auction, and then finishing of the evening with a marine themed karaoke (oh, and the special fire house Chilli con carne was provided for all those who attended).

Throughout the evening over 50 signatures were collected for Shark Awareness Protection, as well as a huge separate donations of $800AUD were raised, which will be donated and split 50/50 between Project Aware and Go Eco Phuket, to help fight to keep our sharks free!

PADI Regional Manager Tony Andrews, And Go Eco Phuket chief officer Khun Tee, quoted the evening as being such a huge success, and applauded all those involved.

Special thanks to, PADI Examiners Rob and Dan, PADI Course Director Chris Owen and Thien x Do, and to Ric, Gary and Joe for arranging the successful evening.
