Bali Scuba Sponsor PADI Professional Training in Bali

25 Oct

Bali ScubaPADI 5 Star Instructor Development Centre/Career Development Centre, Bali Scuba recently initiated a 1 year sponsorship program to provide diver training – commencing with the PADI Open Water Diver course through to PADI Divemaster – for one Indonesian National.  Dive Sport Bali have also come on board to provide a full set of diving equipment for the successful candidate.

Always keen advocators of responsible tourism, Bali Scuba, who are based in Sanur, Denpasar, Bali, decided to initiate the program in an attempt to support local economies and provide employment for local residents.

Simon Gilbert, one of the owners at Bali Scuba reports, “We wanted to give back to the local community in Bali who have given so much to us. We employ 90% local staff in all roles throughout the business and all of our local PADI Instructors have been trained at our Dive Centre. However, not everyone has the financial means, so we decided to sponsor the training of a keen individual who showed an amazing positive attitude and a desire to achieve.”

Selected for the program and the lucky recipient of this life changing opportunity is 23 year-old, Putu Adri Wisanta (aka ‘Santa’).

Santa_uploadSanta was chosen by Bali Scuba – firstly because he is from Bali – his absolute commitment to the program and to becoming a dive professional. He is also a member of Diana University in Denpasar, Bali and the college outdoor activities club called Mapala. The club focuses on activities that will be useful for the local environment and skills that can be used in programs such as search and recovery, environmental conservation and building artificial reefs.

The Bali Scuba sponsored program began in early October and will run to the end of September 2014.  Santa has already completed his PADI Open Water Course and is now enjoying daily fun dives before commencing his PADI Advanced Open Water Course.

Here’s a list of basic topics: Travel, Equipment, Skills, Training, Photography, Marine Life and Lifestyle. Any aspect of the dive life is open. Here are a few examples:

  • Travel: When planning a group trip to a new destination, partner with a PADI Dive Centre or Resort in that destination to help co-host your event.
  • Equipment: Always know the latest scuba gear, so if your student divers have questions about their new BCDs, you can easily help them.
  • Lifestyle: To get divers interacting on your next dive boat adventure, bring along a bag of candy to pass around during surface intervals.

Please submit your tips by 1 July and, if your tips are used, your name, location and dive centre (if applicable) will be included in the magazine.

CONGRATULATIONS to PRO DIVE CAIRNS – issuing 130,000 PADI certifications!

7 Jun

Pro Dive Cairns 130,000 7.6.13Pro Dive Cairns made history in the diving industry this week when they issued their 130,000th PADI certification. A remarkable achievement to be remembered by both Pro Dive Cairns and PADI Asia Pacific (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) as a significant landmark.

It was also an occasion new PADI Open Water Diver Thomas Morey will remember well, as Pro Dive Cairns 130,000th student.

Thomas first tried a few introductory dives when sailing the Whitsundays and loved it so much he just had to dive again.

On the first open water dive off Cairns Thomas admits he was a little apprehensive, but gradually became more familiar with the ocean and just enjoyed himself. “I had an absolutely awesome time both in the pool and the ocean, making for a thoroughly enjoyable course”.

Off to New Zealand next to try the diving there, Thomas adds, “I love the freedom diving brings, the extra dimension of movement makes it feel almost like you’re flying. It’s also a really great way of getting up close and personal with some of the world’s best wildlife. So far I’ve seen everything I’d hoped to, a personal highlight were the sharks and turtles”.

This year Pro Dive Cairns General Manager, Paul Lim and his staff celebrated 30 years of dedication and commitment to quality scuba diver training and dive trips on the Great Barrier Reef. Commenting on the company’s milestones, Paul declared,

“All the staff at Pro Dive Cairns are extremely proud of our achievement. We have worked hard to build our reputation over the years on an ongoing philosophy of ‘quality over quantity’ with a commitment and dedication to providing the best possible dive education and liveaboard dive trips. The fact that so many people have chosen Pro Dive Cairns to teach them to dive or take them diving on the Great Barrier Reef is very satisfying and further reinforces our philosophy.

Our longevity in business over the past 30 years, especially in challenging times like the present, is an outstanding testament to the dedication and professionalism of all our staff, past and present, as well as the quality and reputation of our product.”

Please join PADI Asia Pacific in congratulating the team at Pro Dive Cairns on reaching the remarkable milestone of 130,000 PADI certifications. Since 1983 the two companies have shared a strong and successful business partnership and are looking forward to sharing more success in the years ahead.
